Trip Overview

The Sipi waterfalls are a series of three waterfalls that are situated in the districts of Kapchorwa, Sironko, and Mbale on the slopes of Mount Elgon near the Kenyan border. They are two miles northeast of Sipi town and 170 miles (177 km) from Kampala city.

A visit to Sipi Falls offers the chance to see three waterfalls at an elevation of 1775 meters. The highest waterfall, located at 100 meters, is the most reachable from the community. Simba Falls is located upstream to the east and descends approximately 74 meters, while Ngasire Falls is the last waterfall, dropping approximately 85 meters.

Itinerary

Detailed Itinerary


Day 1: Pick up and travel to Sipi Falls, Evening game drive in Mount Elgon National Park.

Your driver guide will have you briefed on this short 2 days Sipi Falls trip before the journey. After you will embark on the journey from Kampala to Sipi Falls located in Kapchorwa District, Eastern Uganda via the Kampala to Jinja highway through Mabira forest and a new bridge at the Source of the Nile River in Jinja proceeding to Iganga and head to Mbale.

 

The trip will take roughly six hours, with a halt for lunch in Mbale town following a strenuous drive to Kapchorwa. After arriving at the lodge for some downtime and refreshments, go on an evening game drive through the savannah of Mount Elgon National Park to observe the nocturnal wildlife and a breathtaking sunset. You may spot lions, hyenas, leopards, warthogs, and elephants among other nocturnal creatures. Return to the lodges for dinner and overnight accommodations.

Day 2: Hike to the Sipi Falls, Departure from Sipi Falls to Kampala.

After a hefty breakfast at the lodge, you meet your guide for a simple briefing and then start your hike to the scenic Sipi Falls exploring all the 3 series of Sipi Waterfalls which range in elevations of 100m, 75m and 85m with the guide elaborating how these spectacular waterfalls formed while capturing the best pictures.

Following the amazing adventure, return to the lodge for a relaxing lunch. Following the refreshments, we will set off to return to Kampala or the designated drop-off location, stopping along the way to take a break at Jinja before continuing on, which will signal the conclusion of our journey.
